A Fixer Upper in the Heart of Pilsen
The Pilsen Flat
We wanted to build out a space that reflected our collective interests and ambitions. We found a three-(micro)bedroom traditional Chicago apartment, with a casual landlord that was open to our ideas, knowing anything we put into the space would go with us, except for the paint. Failing kitchen appliances and lack of cabinets afforded an opportunity to rebuild on the successes of the Storefront's kitchen and respect the space as a separate room from the rest of the apartment.
We were still dining and entertaining enthusiasts and put our creative energies into comfortable and functional living and dining rooms that reflected our personal interests in books and booze, by hacking ikea shelving for an expansive wrap-around book case in the living room and a custom lit mantle/bar to show off our alcohol collection in the dining room.
Each room lacked proper lighting and offered a chance to come up with solutions for each space, from the home made chandelier in the dining room, to the backlit pegboard dominating the north wall of the kitchen. We hope you find our home as interesting and unique as we do.
