Leftover Shiplap Makes a Good Headboard
The Shiplap Headboard
A few months into renting out the Kitchen Suite guest room, and even spending a few air-conditioned nights in there, we learned a flaw with the room: the space between the mattress and the wall allowed for pillows to fall into the gap. We would find guests left pillows in there to support the ones they slept on. The obvious solution was a headboard. We wanted a quick solution, using leftover scrap, but something that would be smooth, and would look clean. James prefers the angle for sitting up in bed, and Dom wanted the shiplap look, and we used the wood from the walls in the Roosevelt Suite. Cutting and assembly was relatively quick, a stain and several coats of poly, and it was installed with a french cleat to to the wall. We haven't noticed any missing pillows since.
